F FIREBALL2

If you are visiting the island of Tortola, make a point of visiting ย Aragornโ€™s Studio, located in Trellis Bay and the adjoining Beef Island. ย Aragorn is best known for his brilliant metal sculptures called โ€œfireballs.โ€ ย Fireballs are made from large steel buoys that have reached their useful life on the ocean. ย The buoys are then carved by Aragorn with elaborate designs, filled with wood and paper, and then ignited for a spectacular display. ย The fireballs are central to monthly full moon parties on the island. ย Although we were not there during the full moon, at least one fireball was lit each night we visited. ย Stop in for ย a “Dark and Stormy” at the Trellis Bay Cybercafe, made with homemade ginger beer, and watch the display. ย For more on Tortola and Beef Island, check out part three of our five-part trip report from the British Virgin Islands.

Want to see the fireball in action? ย Check it out at minute 6:35 of our BVI Video.
